(Records from Miss Hope Bennett, above).
Mrs. Bennett's sister, Miss Winchester, for long years sat in the seat just in front of us at church. She was a short, little lady and from childhood on I never saw her in anything but deep mourning. She sat, always, alone in her pew and never once did I see her speak or bow to anyone.
The Bennetts we knew from the time Hope, Winchester, my sister and I, at an early age, attended "Professor Loomis Academy of Dancing;" here were we not only instructed in waltz and polka, but in correct manners. The youthful gentlemen, with hand on heart, would bow before a young lady and request the pleasure of a dance--quite a contrast to: "Hi! how about it?".
